Demolished for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Stadium 974 is starting to be demolished for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Even though the World Cup won't be over for another couple of weeks, one of the stadiums that served as the site of seven tournament games is already being torn down. When not in use, Stadium 974, which is close to Doha Port, can be totally disassembled and put back together like Lego. It was constructed mostly from recycled shipping containers.

The stadium may now be transported to other nations that require infrastructure, and if Uruguay wins the right to host the 2030 World Cup, it may end up in Maldonado. The idea behind the short-lived venue was supposed to answer fears that Qatar was spending billions on white elephants that would have little value when the event was gone - as has been witnessed in South Africa, Brazil and Russia.

One of the fundamental tenets of sustainable construction, according to urban sustainability and climate expert Karim Elgendy, is designed for disassembly.

It enables a building site to be naturally restored or to be used for another purpose.

The Qatar World Cup has come under fire in recent months for the way migrant workers who constructed the World Cup's infrastructure and stadiums were treated. Up to 6,500 migrant laborers are thought to have perished while helping Qatar prepare for the World Cup, although the event's organizers assert that the actual death toll is only 37, with only three related to working mishaps.
