The new WhatsApp Chat Lock privacy feature is announced by Meta.
LONDON: On Monday, Meta said that WhatsApp would get a new privacy feature that gives users more control over how their private conversations are protected.
The new component, called Visit Lock, will permit clients to place a discussion in a different envelope that must be gotten to with their gadget's secret key or biometric, like a unique finger impression.
Further enhancing the conversation's privacy, notifications from those conversations will not display the sender or the message content.
The chief executive officer of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, made the following statement on Monday in his Instagram broadcast channel: WhatsApp's new locked chats make conversations more private.
They are hidden in a folder protected by a password, and notifications will not show the sender or the content of the message.
The company that is owned by Meta stated that it intended to introduce additional enhancements for Chat Lock in the future. These enhancements would include the creation of a custom password for chats and the locking of companion devices. This would enable users to have a unique password that was distinct from the one that they used for their phone.
Meta has introduced a number of privacy-preserving features in recent months in an effort to establish itself as a secure and dependable business.
Account Protect, Device Verification, and Automatic Security Codes were introduced in April by WhatsApp, an encrypted messaging app that works from beginning to end. The purpose of these features is to safeguard user accounts from malware on mobile devices and unauthorized access.
WhatsApp and other messaging services have joined forces in the United Kingdom to oppose the government's plan to require tech companies to break end-to-end encryption in private messages as part of its proposed internet safety legislation. They claim that the bill poses an "unprecedented threat to the privacy, safety, and security of every UK citizen and the people with whom they communicate around the world."
Addressing the media in Spring, the head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart, said: " Ninety-eight percent of our customers are located outside of the UK.
"They do not want us to reduce the product's security, and it would be an odd choice for us to reduce the product's security in a way that would affect those 98 percent of users," according to the company.
