Upon the departure of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdelaziz Al Thani, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the ruler of Qatar, named Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani as the new prime minister of the nation.

 

Sheikh Mohammed, who has been Qatar's foreign minister since 2016, represented Qatar in public during the country's three-and-a-half-year journey through the blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt.

 

Sheikh Khalid led the Amiri Diwan, the emir's office, before being named PM in January 2020. Before working for Sheikh Tamim when he was the crown prince, he had experience in the gas sector and had his education in the United States.

 

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has been appointed interior minister, according to information released by the emir's office. Qatar held its first legislative council elections in October 2021 to choose two-thirds of the advisory Shura Council.

 

The Shura Council has legislative authority, and adopts broad state policies and the budget, but has no influence over the establishment of the small but affluent gas producer's economic, investment, or security policies, which forbid political parties.
