In the World Test Championship final, Australia won against India by 209 runs.

India was defeated by Australia in the World Test Championship final.

LONDON: As a dominant Australia defeated India by 209 runs to win the World Test Championship final at The Oval on Sunday, Scott Boland sparked a dramatic collapse. India won by a record 444 to start the second half on 164-3. However, they fell to 234 all-out before lunch on the fifth day, losing only 22 runs off their final five wickets.

On his way to figures of 3-46 in 16 overs, Boland did the first damage with two wickets, including the prized scalp of Virat Kohli, on Sunday's seventh over. After that, Nathan Lyon, an off-spinner (4-41) finished off the tail. With the victory, Australia finally won the only major men's cricket title they had ever held. If Josh Hazlewood hadn't been hurt, Boland might not have been in the team.

The 34-year-old seamer appears to have secured a spot in Australia's team for Friday's first Ashes Test at Edgbaston against England.

"It felt significantly better to get Kohli out," said Boland, who has now taken 33 wickets in eight Tests at the astoundingly low normal of 14.57.

He continued, "I have played state cricket for Victoria for 12 years." It feels good to play international cricket and get some wickets because I have worked hard.

India was defeated by New Zealand in the inaugural WTC final in Southampton in 2021, leaving them still looking for their first global trophy in a decade. India would have surpassed the West Indies' record of 418-7 against Australia in St. John's in 2003 as the highest winning fourth-innings chase in Test history if it had reached a target of 444. India was also trying to beat England's Oval record of 263 set in a one-wicket win over Australia in 1902, which India had set.

However, even though the chances were vigorously against their side, scores of Indian fans, the critical part in a total group of more than 100,000 across the five days, actually spilled into the ground.

After being given the bat, Australia, which had lost its previous four-Test series to India, took control of this match right away. Both player-of-the-match Travis Head (163) and star batsman Steve Smith (121) made hundreds in a first-innings complete of 469.

"How Travis and Smith put on that organization set us straight," said Australia chief Pat Cummins. Added the fast bowler: Everyone played their part well, and Boland was fantastic; he is now my favorite player. We will enjoy this and then concentrate on the Ashes.

Rohit Sharma, captain of India, stated: We didn't work hard with the bat in the second inning... Playing in two WTC finals is a good accomplishment for us, but yeah, we would like to go a long way ahead of that as well. As the former India captain and Ajinkya Rahane came out to bat on Sunday, there were chants of "Kohli, Kohli, Kohli" heard all over the field. Kohli's edged drive off Boland on 49 was brilliantly caught by a diving Smith at second slip, but Kohli had only added five runs to his overnight total.

New batsman Ravindra Jadeja was caught behind a superb Boland delivery that appeared to be moving away two balls later, resulting in his duck. In India's first innings, Rahane scored the highest with a patient 89, marking his first Test in over a year. However, on Sunday, his otherwise composed 46 came to an end when he edged a powerful drive off Mitchell Starc straight to Alex Carey, the wicketkeeper. After that, Lyon proved to be too much for India, and he won the match when the last man, Mohammed Siraj, was caught in a reverse sweep.
