Israeli police attacked worshippers at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa .

Israeli troops attacked worshippers at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa Mosque and at least 205 Palestinians and 17 officers were injured in the night-time clashes.

On Tuesday night in occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli troops stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque and brutally attacked hundreds of Palestinian worshippers. Around 10 p.m. local time, heavily armed police officers were seen approaching the Al-Aqsa compound and firing tear gas and stun grenades into the Qibli prayer hall, which is the structure with the silver dome and was being used as a place of overnight prayer by hundreds of men, women, elderly people, and children.

The believers peacefully observing the holy month of Ramadan were forcibly removed from the location.

As Israeli forces continue to prevent medical personnel from reaching the injured, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported receiving numerous reports of injuries at Al-Aqsa Mosque. Nevertheless, the PRCS was unable to estimate the number of casualties.

Following the attack, many Palestinians came to the streets to protest the attack and confront Israeli soldiers at army and checkpoint stations. Rallies were also held in Gaza, Umm al-Fahm (a Palestinian settlement in Israel), and Amman, the capital of Jordan.

Since the beginning of Ramadan, Israeli forces have been removing worshippers from Al-Aqsa Mosque every evening after the Taraweeh prayer concludes at about 9 p.m. local time, though without this pervasive use of violence.

They have also imposed restrictions on who may access the area and when which the Palestinians claim violates their right to freedom of religion. Palestinians refuse to abide by the Israeli government's ban on i'tikaf at Al-Aqsa Mosque outside of the last ten days of Ramadan. To facilitate the easy entry of Israeli settlers, which occurs every morning at roughly 7:30 a.m. local time, Israeli troops frequently clear the mosque of Palestinians outside of the five Muslim prayers, particularly overnight and after dawn prayer.
