Apple opens its first store in India.

In Mumbai City, Apple opens its first store in India.

On Tuesday, over 300 people lined up outside Apple's store in Mumbai as customers snapped photographs with CEO Tim Cook, who opened the company's first physical location in India and emphasized the significance of the country as a market.

"Mumbai has incredible energy, creativity, and passion!" Cook, who is visiting India for the first time in seven years, tweeted. We are incredibly thrilled to launch our first store in India.

Indians from all over the country rushed to the store anticipating the grand opening, which featured regional music and folk dancers. Even though Apple items are accessible in India online, some people started lining up outside the store the night before to purchase them.

Purav Mehta, 30, said to Reuters that he was waiting for Cook to sign his packed, mint-condition iPod Touch that he had purchased on eBay and for the Apple Watch Ultra. "The fanboy inside me would not listen," he said. Many guests wore T-shirts designed in the manner preferred by co-founder Steve Jobs, had their hair styled in the form of the Apple logo, and one supporter even brought a 1984 model of the company's original computer.

"The vibe here is just different," said 23-year-old Aan Shah, who traveled from the western industrial city of Ahmedabad for the inauguration in India's commercial capital."It's not like shopping at a regular store. There simply isn't a comparison. It's really thrilling. As a young student in New York and Boston, he said that his passion for Apple led him to shop openings where he once had the opportunity to meet Cook.

While its online store launched in 2020, Apple earlier encountered difficulties in constructing physical retail outlets in the country of South Asia. However, its items have been available on e-commerce platforms.

The opening of the new store coincides with an increase in Indian consumers' desire to replace their basic, often less than $120 smartphones with glitzier models that provide richer feature sets. Even so, just a small percentage of Indian consumers can afford Apple's expensive smartphones, which only hold a 3% market share there. A special ceremony on Monday marked the opening of the new store, which is housed in Reliance's Jio World Drive mall. Several Indian film and television stars were spotted meeting Cook that evening.

On Thursday, a second store is scheduled to open in Delhi, the nation's capital. Later this week, sources told Reuters, Cook would meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the deputy IT minister. Some of Apple's goods, including the iPhone, are put together in India by Taiwanese contract electronics makers Foxconn and Wistron as the company works to expand its manufacturing presence there.

Additionally, it intends to produce iPads and AirPods in India.
