After seven years of conflict, Iran and Saudi Arabia decided to restore their relations.

SAUDI KING IS INVITED TO TEHRAN BY THE PRESIDENT OF IRAQ.

DUBAI: Following an agreement negotiated by China in March, the two regional foes agreed to put an end to years of antagonism. Iran has now formally invited the monarch of Saudi Arabia to visit the nation. Shi'ite revolutionary Iran and the Sunni-led Kingdom achieved an agreement to repair a seven-year diplomatic rupture after years of bad relations that fueled proxy battles around the Middle East, where Tehran and Riyadh backed opposing sides from Yemen to Syria.

Nasser Kanaani said in a televised news conference that the Saudi monarch received an invitation from Riyadh in exchange for the Iranian president (Ebrahim Raisi) sending one to him. Both technical delegations are getting ready to formally relaunch their missions, and Tehran said that these missions would resume operations by May 9, according to Iran's semi-official Tasnim News agency.

On March 10, Iran and Saudi Arabia reached a reconciliation agreement after seven years of antagonism that jeopardized Gulf peace and security and fueled crises from Yemen to Syria. Top security officials from the two competing Middle Eastern nations met in Beijing for four days before making the according public.

In a joint statement, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and China announced that Tehran and Riyadh had decided to restart diplomatic ties and reopen embassies within two months. "The agreement includes their affirmation of the respect for the sovereignty of states and the non-interference in internal affairs," the statement read. Saudi Arabia has recently accused Iran of carrying out missile and drone attacks on its oil facilities as well as attacks on ships in the Gulf of Aden. Iran refuted the accusations.

Ali Shamkhani, Iran's top security official, and Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Saudi Arabia's national security adviser, agreed to reactivate a 2001 security cooperation deal as well as another earlier agreement on trade, economics, and investment in Friday's agreement. Wang Yi, China's top diplomat, called the agreement a win for dialogue and peace and said Beijing would continue to contribute positively to solving complex world problems.
