The end of 2023 is "excellent timing," according to Elon Musk

The end of 2023 is "excellent timing," according to Elon Musk, for a new Twitter owner.

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has hinted that he would step down as the company's CEO by the end of this year. Musk, who paid $44 billion for Twitter in October, said on Wednesday that it would be "excellent timing" to find a new CEO by the end of 2023.

When asked if he had found a new CEO and when that person would be hired, Musk responded, "I think I need to stabilize the organization and just make sure it's in a financially healthy place and that the product roadmap is clearly laid out." Musk was making a virtual appearance at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

Because he anticipates the company to be in a secure position by that time, Musk stated that "probably towards the end of this year would be ideal timing." Musk announced on Twitter in December that he would leave his position as CEO "as soon as I find someone stupid enough to take the job!"The comments were made by Musk, one of the richest men in the world who also leads Tesla, after a Twitter poll revealed that the majority of voters thought he should step down.

Users are divided over Musk's leadership of the platform; while many liberals express alarm about the rise of disinformation and hate speech, conservatives applaud his declared commitment to free speech. Musk, a self-described ardent supporter of free speech, has vowed to promote a range of opinions on Twitter and combat what he perceives to be the liberal tilt that predominated under the platform's previous administration.

Since taking over, Musk has reduced Twitter's personnel by around half, updated its moderation procedures, and reinstated the accounts of prominent users who had been suspended, including former US President Donald Trump.

Musk has been under fire for allegedly allowing hate speech from extremists on his platform and for filtering criticism that he does not agree with. He has also been accused of suspending several journalists whom he claimed had doxed him.

Under the direction of the tech millionaire, the platform has also frequently encountered bugs and outages. Speaking in Dubai on Wednesday, Musk praised the social media site as a useful communication tool despite the recent challenges, calling his ownership of Twitter a "rollercoaster."

"It's fantastic as a platform for communication. To talk in an honest voice, I would merely promote more conversation, he added.

"People occasionally hire someone else to serve as their Twitter manager or something similar. Just let people tweet on their own, please. That, in my opinion, is how to go.
