Petrol shortage persists in pakistan

 Petroleum costs hit historic highs.

LAHORE On Monday, the shortage of gasoline in Punjab reached its seventh day as people were spotted going from the pump to pump in search of fuel, according to Dunya News. Out of concern for experiencing a major petrol shortage similar to Punjab, many in Karachi have begun to stockpile gasoline. Petrol stations in Karachi are backed up with people.

Despite promising the people that the problem will be resolved in a few days, the Punjabi government has yet to be able to end the province's petrol shortage. People's daily routines have been seriously disrupted by persistent fuel scarcity, which has made traveling to work and attending school difficult. Patients have also had trouble getting to the hospital on time.

Long lines of both men and women formed to purchase gasoline, and incidents of altercations with the attendants were also seen. However, the majority of gas stations are either closed or have a "no sale" sign-up. The public is furious with the administration for its inability to end the province's petrol crisis as a result of the shortage of gasoline during the past six days.

According to sources, a ship carrying 50,000 tonnes of petroleum has begun delivering fuel to Northern Punjab via tankers, and on January 25 and 27, two ships carrying 50,000 tonnes of fuel each would arrive at Karachi port. Long lines of both men and women formed to purchase gasoline, and incidents of altercations with the attendants were also seen. The finance ministry stated that the price increase was necessary because petroleum goods were trading at their highest level since 2014 on the global market. It's interesting to note that domestic gasoline and HSD prices in 2014 tended to range between Rs110 and Rs120 per liter.

According to the report, the prime minister postponed the price review on January 31 and gave customers respite by lowering the GST and OL while suffering a fortnightly income loss of nearly Rs35 billion.

Currently, all major goods—including gasoline, HSD, kerosene, and LDO—are GST-free as opposed to the usual 17 percent. The government levies a fuel tax of Rs17.92 on gasoline, Rs13.30 on high-speed diesel, Rs9.50 on low-speed diesel, Rs5 on kerosene, and Rs30 on high-octane blending components per liter. Additionally, the government levies a customs fee of around Rs. 12 per liter on gasoline and HSD.
