Israel's West Bank raid

Israel's West Bank raid claimed nine lives, according to the Palestinian administration.

According to health officials, heavy fighting between Israeli soldiers and gunmen on Thursday morning in the Jenin neighborhood of the northern West Bank resulted in the deaths of nine Palestinians and the injuries of several others. The Israel Defense Forces issued a brief statement in which they described their operations in the Jenin refugee camp. It promised to give further information later.

According to the Kan national broadcaster, the military was attempting to apprehend a prominent member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group who was supposedly planning a big terrorist strike. According to a local chapter of the PIJ, its members fired on the Israeli soldiers and set off explosives nearby. Nine Palestinians were murdered and numerous more were injured, according to a statement from the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry.

According to an AFP count from official sources, there were at least 200 Palestinians and 26 Israelis killed in Israel and the Palestinian territories in 2022, with the majority occurring in the West Bank.

The West Bank has been under Israeli control since the Six-Day War in 1967. The raid on Jenin on Thursday, according to the Palestinian leadership, was carried out "under international silence."

According to Nabil Abu Rudeinah, a spokesman for Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, "this is what motivates the occupation administration to carry out crimes against our people in the full light of the world."

In light of the events in Jenin, the Palestinian Minister of Health requested an immediate meeting with representatives of the World Health Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The most recent violence occurs a day after two Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers in separate incidents.

A 22-year-old man has been killed nearby the West Bank city of Qalqilya after allegedly attempting to knife soldiers, according to the Israeli army. A 17-year-old kid who seemed to point a fake gun at police during a raid in the Shuafat refugee camp in Israeli-occupied east Jerusalem was later slain by Israeli soldiers.

The adolescent was the fifth Palestinian kid to die this month as a result of Israeli military actions.
