NATO WARNED OVER SUPPLYING UKRAINE WITH PATRIOT SYSTEMS

NATO WARNED OVER SUPPLYING UKRAINE WITH PATRIOT SYSTEMS

Dmitry Medvedev, a former Russian president, advised NATO on Tuesday not to give Ukraine Patriot missile defense systems, branding the organization a "criminal body" for arming what he called "extremist regimes."

As president from 2008 to 2012, Medvedev previously portrayed himself as a liberal modernizer, but in recent years, he has emerged as one of the most ardent supporters of Russia's war in Ukraine, regularly denouncing the West on his social media platforms.

His warning was unclear as to whether he meant for Patriot systems, Ukrainian soldiers, or NATO personnel to become targets.

"This organization is not necessary for the civilized world. It must apologize to mankind and be eliminated as a criminal organization, he stated in a previous piece.

To defend itself against Russian strikes on its energy infrastructure, Ukraine has asked its Western allies for air defenses, particularly Patriot systems built in the United States.

NATO ministers have vowed to increase their support for Kyiv in response to what they describe as Russia's "persistent and unjustifiable strikes on Ukrainian civilian and energy infrastructure."
